Thousands of years ago the ancient seers or Vedas developed a system of how man-made structures impact people and complied the Vastu Shastras. In Sanskrit Vastu means science, nature , a surrounding or environment and shastra means architecture or systems. According to Vastu Shastra is an ancient art and science, containing principles and practices of constructing buildings and inner spaces which ensure a harmonious balance between man and nature bring happiness, health, wealth and prosperity.
The ancient sages of India laid down several principles for constructing buildings taking advantage of the nature - Earth, Air, Fire and Water, and using the gravitational and magnetic effects and rotational influences of the Sun, Moon, Earth and other planets to bring balance and harmony between man, nature and his buildings and thereby ensuring peace, prosperity and happiness.
Chinese Feng Shui is based on the beginnings of Vastu with many similarities. Both are ancient studies of the unseen energies of the environment and the effect they have in our dwellings. Both disciplines emphasize the importance of understanding these energies to find greater harmony and prosperity in our lives and the use of natural products such as stone, wood, water, leather, fabrics to balance the energies. Feng Shui assess the quality of the energy to determine the prosperity and harmony of the environment and that the five elements - earth, water, fire, metal and wood - need to be in balance.
